The MX242 is a culmination of all of our experience, advanced materials, and shoe making techniques to make a shoe that offers the best fitting solution for hard to fit foot types. Made with a heat moldable heel counter and an uniquely designed upper that has enough adjustability to accommodate riders with bunions, deformation, narrow or wide feet, or a high or low instep. The separated panels allow for fine tuning the fit, relieving pressure from sensitive and painful spots on the feet.
MX Competition Last – Featuring a larger toe box & tighter heel than the Comfort last and with slightly more overall volume than the Sport last. Exceptionally secure for hard riding/racing with enough room in the toe box to prevent binding when running up inclines or negotiating a hike-a-bike section. Designed for performance riding & racing.
Lake Competition 100% Carbon Fiber Sole with Mountain Competition real rubber sole with extended protection and ground stability.
Helcor Abrasion resistant leather, Ecco Fullgrain leather and Nufoam lining with Carbon fiber support panels which help to maintain a secure fit while adding foot stability. The Helcor Abrasion resistant leather is specifically designed to be extremely durable against rubbing, scrapes and scuffing. The upper is segmented into 6 independent zones for the most flexible fit to accommodate narrow or wide feet as well as high instep and low instep feet. The moldable heel counter doubles the heel hold for a secure fit.
BOA® Fit System Li2 dials. The Li2 dial is the most advanced platform in cycling, offering a precise, micro-adjustable fit in both directions and designed to resist abrasion.

Regular size 12 here, I fit size 12 in most US shoes without issue. In EU I can range from 45-46, typically 46 though. Sidis I normally wear 46.5, so just fyi if you're trying to size out.
These are the most comfortable mtb shoes I've ridden in. This is especially true for hot weather (Desert SW USA). It's a joy to ride in these in warmer weather.
My only complaint, and it's a life-long one with Lake, is that the heel needs to be higher and tighter. Or at least come up with a system that can adjust locking the heel in. For top of the line shoes, that is continually a huge oversight- and what has kept me away from Lake for so long.
Also, great customer service in working with me to figure out what to get after an order I placed turned out to not be in stock- thank you.
I wear a U.S. size 17-EEE and have bunions on both feet. Clipless shoes have always been in the back of my mind. So, After 30 years of riding I finally decided to spend some money and try to go clipless. For the last year I’ve ordered and returned the largest, widest offerings from Shimano, Sidi and Bont. And none of them come anywhere close to fitting as great as the Lake’s. Sure the Lake’s are much more expensive, but they’re worth the investment. They fit and feel better than most of my normal casual shoes. Plenty of room for my feet, someone with even larger or wider feet than mine would likely be perfectly comfortable as well, thanks to the myriad number of adjustments available with the BOA.
THANK YOU LAKE!!!!!!!
Long term review. Have roughly 6k miles on these. They have been great. I have extremely wide foot. These fixed all the hot spots. The outer stitching has come apart and I will have to use shoe glue to repair them to get more miles out of them. I will purchase another pair but I wish they lasted longer! Oh I also wish they were lighter!
I am 75 and have had wide feet since I was 13. I struggled to find bike shoe that would fit for a long time. This resulted in sore feet and eventually a bunion on my left foot. I purchased these shoes a year ago and I no longer experience pain on discomfort during my rides. First of all, These shoes fit my wide feet and the BOA system tighten them in just the right places for a wonderful fit and support. These shoes are worth every penny and then some!
I cycle about 130 miles weekly and have a lot of issues with my feet (bunions, morton's neuroma, and nerve pain). My feet still hurt especially on rides over 90 minutes but these shoes are the best I’ve found. noticeable improvement over the MX241. Fit seems to be better and I didn’t get near the pain and burning sensation.
Only regret was this shoe was just coming out when I called in to find the best shoe and then purchase the MX241 but looking back, I wish that I would have waited for the MX242
