We’ve taken all that we’ve learnt from our previous cycling shoe models, such as the legendary Lake CX and MX238, and we’ve used this information alongside new analysis to bring you what we believe could be one of the most stylish and comfortable high performance cycling shoes available, for all riders.

The devil is always in the detail

Creating some of the most comfortable cycling shoes isn’t easy. It requires an adherence to excellence each and every day. Our chief designer, Hutch, travels the world constantly, speaking with cyclists, with technicians, bike fitters, scientists and industry experts, so that he can get a complete picture - not only about the issues that cyclists need addressing, but also about the materials and technologies available to take our cycling shoes onto the next level. One key area for cyclists is always adjustability and feet. After all, your feet are unique and how you use them on your own bike is part of your own unique cycling style. There are also the health-related foot issues to deal with, such as bunions. Yes, cycling shoe design is a complex subject area, which is why it takes so many years of innovation and excellence to arrive at a cycling shoe as superb as the all-new Lake CX21C and MX21G.

Like our legendary CX238, the CX21C is designed on our Competition Last. It has a profile specifically designed for very high-cadence riding and higher pressure, featuring a more curved profile than the Sport last. The main differences include increased toe pitch and heel lift, a tighter heel and a slightly wider ball girth to allow the foot to expand under high pedalling pressures.

Tied to excellence – with ultimate adjustability

One thing that we’ve learnt over more than 40 years of cycling shoe design is that not all feet are equal – they come in all shapes, sizes and volume. Using laces as the closure system on the new CX21C ensures that, whatever your foot shape and individual preferences, you can adjust the laces to wrap the Clarino microfiber upper around your feet like a second skin. The upper and the panelling design is taken from our legendary Lake CX238 model, with a slightly modern twist to the design, alongside that classic cycling shoe style that laces bring to the CX21C.

CX21C Road cycling shoe

The new Lake CX21C road cycling shoe has a 100% carbon fibre sole, maximising that all-important power transfer and providing stability and security to every pedal stroke. The sole is available in a 3-hole cleat pattern, ensuring ultimate cleat positioning options and maximising contact between pedal and shoe, so that the only thing you feel is a sense of achievement with every pedal stroke.  The heel cup is designed to hold your foot firmly in place, reducing unnecessary and wasted movement; and the front of the stylishly sleek Clarino microfiber upper has a rubber toe bumper to help protect the upper from scuffs and scratches.

MX21G Gravel Biking

The MX21G is an SPD compatible version of the CX21C that is designed for all day gravel grinding. It has all the same features and comfort with the addition of a minimal and lightweight rubber tread for grip when you do need to put your feet on the ground. The 100% carbon sole allows for optimal power transfer while maintaining all day comfort. Finished off with a lace closure system, the form-fitting panels of the new MX21G wrap your feet like a glove, allowing you to concentrate on the ride ahead.
