The drive to constantly challenge ourselves

I know, we’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying again; here at Lake, we’ve been designing and creating some of the most comfortable high performance cycling shoes in the world, for over 40 years. In that time, we’ve developed new ideas that have driven forward the cycling shoe industry, and we continue to look at areas to improve – to constantly challenge ourselves. In truth, that’s the best way to be, and the only way to stay ahead of the competition. It’s all about being the best version of ourselves.

I was out riding yesterday, on World Cycling Day, and I took myself for a 3-hour spin at speed. Okay, that may not mean a great deal, but I am now 58 years of age and somewhat short of recent cycling miles. I loved it, and at the end of the ride, my helmet had that dampness inside the padding that evidences the effort... but, my shoes stayed perfectly dry from sweat – just saying 😉

Anyway, the point is this; in our daily lives we set ourselves personal challenges all the time. When I stopped for coffee yesterday, I met Amir, who was 90 miles into a 160 miles ride from coast to coast, that he’d just decided to do, because it seemed like fun! It was his personal challenge for World Cycling day, and I applaud him. Lake cycling shoes always make long days in the saddle more comfortable and enjoyable.  But, back to us here at Lake.

40+ years at the forefront of cycling shoe design

In 1982, the innovation was the first EVA Foam Insole, designed to fit inside the nylon sole cycling shoe.  In 1985, Lake created the first pure Tri shoe, worn by Mark Allen, and in doing so we changed the perception of what’s fast for a triathlete; and our latest CX333 and MX333 bring together all these years of innovation into cycling shoe excellence, to give cyclists what we believe is the evolution of the cycling shoe, and the best cycling shoe in the world. Yes, we’re constantly challenging the norm, and saying to ourselves “I wonder if...” - because ultimately these questions can and do evolve into answers.

Our latest MX30G Gravel Bike shoe

We recently looked at how gravel bikes were developing, and how riders were adapting to this new area of our sport. It was clear to us that those taking part, wanted and needed something different. We looked at the terrain being used, the style of riding and racing, the bikes themselves and of course, we looked in depth at the riders. Our latest MX30G Gravel Bike shoe is the result of challenging ourselves to develop the most comfortable and a top performing gravel biking shoe in the world. It’s super light, with a race-ready MX Race Last, featuring a slightly narrower toe box & tighter heel than the Competition last, and with less overall volume than the Sport last. It’s designed with a slimmer fit and is ideally suited for racing on those tough and relentless gravel trails and river crossings.

It delivers maximum power transfer, using our Lake Race 100% Carbon Fiber Sole, and has ultimate durability and grip from our rubber sole and TPU lugs with provisions for toe spikes. It also comes in either a lightweight Clarino Microfiber or highly breathable mesh to keep you cool and dry. Yes, the race-ready mesh offering allows your hard-working feet to dry rapidly, and to stay cool in the summer sun. Once again, we’ve challenged ourselves to meet the needs of cyclists, and with these latest cycling shoe designs, we believe that we’ve achieved it.
